Every summer, the Indian Institute of Petroleum & Energy (IIPE) opens its doors to some of the brightest students across India. The Summer Internship Programme 2026 (SIP) is more than just lab work – it’s an 8-week deep dive into research under young and dynamic faculty. IIPE Summer Internship 2026 Eligibility
Here’s the thing, IIPE isn’t open to just anyone. You must be a regular student (no distance mode) in specific semesters:
- B.E./B.Tech – 6th Semester
- M.S./M.Sc./M.Tech – 2nd Semester
- Dual Degree M.Tech – 8th Semester
- Dual Degree M.Sc – 8th Semester
CGPA requirements depend on your institute’s standing:
- CGPA ≥ 7.5 if you’re from IITs, IISc, NITs, IISERs, NISER, IIEST, CFTIs, or universities with NIRF rank ≤ 25
- CGPA ≥ 8.5 for other institutes
- Minimum 65% in 10th and 12th
Students with backlogs or any disciplinary action are not eligible. I’ve seen promising applicants lose out because they ignored this clause – don’t make that mistake.
Rs 10,000 Stipend Details
Funding comes in three flavors:
- Institute Funded: Rs 10,000 after completion, limited slots (25% of interns)
- Project Funded: Rs 10,000 after completion, funded by faculty projects (50% of interns)
- Self-Funded: No stipend, but full access to research facilities (25% of interns)
Living, hostel, and transport expenses are on you. Honestly, the stipend covers a decent chunk if you’re careful with spending.
Selection Criteria
The Department-wise SIP Selection Committee considers:
- CGPA
- Past research experience
- Awards
- Proposed work
- Letters of recommendation
Each faculty can take only 2 interns, so faculty preference matters but isn’t guaranteed.
